I’ve been on antibiotics for abscessed wisdom teeth for seven (7)days and during that seven (7) days I noticed that I was getting very weak in the gym. Does all antibiotics have this effect? Or is it just me?

Yesterday (4-17-01) I got two abscessed wisdom teeth cut out and now I can’t eat anything. I really feel messed up in my weight-training program. I know it is going to take me at least one month to get straighten out.

Are you sure it was the antibiotic that caused the weakness? Was your infection bad enough to account for it? I'd never heard of that, but I guess anything's possible.

I don't think it was the infection since I lived with it for a two (2)weeks before seeking help. Two days into taking the antibiotics and my strength seemed to drop and the Infection cleared up. Of course I kept taking the Antibiotics until all gone. I think I'm going to take sometime out and research this. I will up date everyone with my findings.

antibiotics are made to kill forign living materials that enter your body, but they can't recognise the tissues to kill and the tissues not to kill, so they destroy the bacteria and some of your body tissues. that's why you feel dissy and stuff.. just give yourself some rest until you are done with them

Some antibiotics can affect your strength. It should not take long to get back to your usual awesomeness though. You might want to have some acidophilus or yogurt to replace some of the freindly flora.

Thanks for the info on this guys. I start taking an antibotic tomorrow for an upper respirtory infection I've had for a few days. I was planning to get back to the gym shortly. Now I won't be so dismayed when I can't blast as usual. I will take this loss of strength into consderation to prevent injury. Thanks.

Part of the strength loss comes from the fact that the body is spending energy to support the immune system while it is fighting the bacteria. Weight training also puts a strain on the immune system to repair tissue "injured" while training. It is hard to supply energy to the muscle for contraction, repair damaged muscle tissue, and fight a foreign bacteria. Go into a maintenance mode while the body is splitting its time/energy to heal. Yoogurt is good to maintain intestinal flora and prevent GI distress(males) and OB/GYN probs(females)

Hey thanks, I knew I would get some positive feedback about this. I tried looking it up on the net but no luck. I guess I will be buying some yogurt.

By OB/GYN problems I guess you're talking about yeast infections which trouble females after antibiotics. My wife read about that remedy the other day and scared the **** out of me when she screamed with joy!
