From what i've read...
It's ok two have at most 2 beers on the weekend without having a big effect. It also helps is you let 48 hours pass by before workingout to avoid after effects from beer which can include the following: * Decrease strength * Impair reaction time * Impair balance and eye/hand coordination * Impair fine motor and gross motor coordination * Increase fatigue * Interfere with body temperature regulation * Cause dehydration * Deplete aerobic capacity and negatively impact endurance for up to 48 hours after the last drink * Impact cellular repair: Protein metabolism is negatively impacted when alcohol is in the system. This has obvious implications for muscle repair. * Impacts the cardiovascular system * Disrupt sleep * Cause vitamin and mineral depletion * Cause cognitive impairment ...and other's more. "Alcohol interferes with many of the processes so vital to success. Focus, performance, recovery and rebuilding are all affected." Alcohol may slow down the focus and performance during training, then may affect muscles during the recovery and muscle rebuilding phase. Though a serious bodybuilder should know better then to be drinking beer but to each his own. So if your gonna compete then you should stay away from beer period. Otherwise, 1 or 2 will not hurt, it may actually have small positive effects. Everything in moderation, including moderation. A glass of red wine a day is rumoured to have some positive effects on the heart for men. I have also read where alcohol can actually increase estrogen levels. Like oscarg says, one or two here and there is alright.

i wasnt sure about it because in the movie "Pumping Iron" there were scenes where the bodybuilders were doing interviews and arnold and his freind had chicks over in this one deleted scene and they all had wine and stuff and face it it didnt hurt him in bodybuilding.

Wine isn't as bad as beer or liquer. But still, in a movie, (true story) I'm sure it is exagerated. In any case I wouldn't suggest alcahol as a regular carb.-------------- "A will finds a way, failure is not an option" Ivan carivan@freetrainers.com Montreal Canada |

Plus Arnold wasn't what you would call a natural bodybuilder.

Most bear and spirit is high in sugar and yeast: but dont forget the danger that as a bodybuilder you are probably useing creatine and protein supplyments, so your liver and kideneys are working at full pelt prossessing these to suply your muscles the neutriants they need at the right time, you look in good shape to me but that is thanks to good liver and kidney function I personally would say its not good. I also like a drink but I gave it up to get in shape but if any one can give a good case for drinking I would love to hear it I'm gagging for a pint.
ps: wasent arnold smoking cigars aswell. pps: did'nt he have heart surgary at some point. |

I just baught a tin of creatine I'm giving it a 2 months trial I have read up on it and can't seem to find a definetive view on it so as they say the proof is in the eating. I will do it as close to text book as I can and I'll keep the board posted of my progress incase any ones intrested. I'll be starting the trial on the 19th. good luck anvil but if you do give in to temtation, have one for me.
