I have been lifting pretty consistant for the past couple, two three months after a lay off of about a month. I follow my workouts pretty much to the T. I can't seem to get over this aching muscle thing or tightness through the week. This past Saturday I decided to go light rather than lift my usual weight. I am thinking maybe going lighter for a week might help my body to recover a little more. The hope for this is to be able to lift even more weight the following week. Does this seem to make any sense to anyone. I figure as long as I'm eating, even if I use less intensity I will still have growth and it would relieve a little strain on muscle tissue. :dumbbell:

this is called DOMS...i get it after most workouts...delayed onset muscle soreness and i can last up to a week....after a leg workout I am sore for 5-6 days at times....

try using bengay, tiger balm, or blue ice...(camphor, menthol, methyl salicyte)...to massage on the sore muscle for relief...

also don't go lighter...keep going heavy...but do your full body cycle...instead of every 7....to 8,9,10,12....etc....if you lifting heavy....you can do a fairly long training split like this...

Thanks menace. Dude, I checked out your profile and man you are putting up some weight. You look good in the photo but I don't think it does you enough justice. About the tiger balm, ben gay stuff. You don't think that kind of thing is mostly a skin stimulent? I honestly don't think it penetrates deep enough into your muscles tissue to really do anything but the menthol makes if feel like it is.

I have been told I look bigger in person...don't know how true that is....reason I put up big numbers is because I train for strength primarily in all my lifts where as most people train for muscle gains or for specific lifts(bench, squat, deadlift)...

Camphor numbs the soreness so it's not as bad...menthol me with muscle soreness in one way or another....so that's why I am suggesting them...they may or may not help you specifically...but they are definitely something worth trying...

Training for strength you say. I remember asking my dad years ago about guys that are big and guys that are just strong, if there was a difference. Well, apparently so cause when I was with 18" guns I was doing dumbell max at5-8 reps with 60lbs, with an ezy curl weight of about 150 lbs so I guess I would be one of those guys who train for muscle gain as opposed to strength. Then again I'm like 5'7" and your what was it.. 6 feet? Your guns may be a tad smaller but I think your gonna have more mass as your just built bigger.

Also try L-carnitine....it's been shown to reduce muscle soreness.....by as much as 45%....in a recent study...

I don't know why...but I am curling weights....that some guys do with 21.5 inch arms....I think I have prettylow body fat....my arms are around 17.5/18 right and 17/17.5 left...so that's why they are fairly small.....if i had bf of around 15%...like most big guys do...I'd probably be around 20'+ for arms also...
