A couple of months ago I started doing hanging crunches and hanging leg lifts. My abs seem to have increased my strength in bench and some other exercises.

1. Am I imagining this?
2. Are there any ab exercises that are better?
3. Are there any risks?
4. I am thinking of weighting my ankles, is this ok?

Thanks.

First off, no you are not imagining this, when you strengthen your core it will imporove your bench and other lifts, second try the ab program at freetrainers, and remember its all about keeping strict form and contracting your muscles at the top, you should be dead at about 15 reps if done properly, also uses weight as resistance is very helpful, because it will strengthen your abs much faster, but you MUST leave adequate time for them to rebeild just like any other muscle or else you will overtrain them and then you will not really be gaining any muscle at all. Ive used ankle weights in the past for jogging and it really improved the definition on my calfs, I am not really sure if they are bad or not you might want to wait for someone elses response on this.
good luck on your training!

mengsk,

Thanks for the response. I'll look at the ab program. I've been looking through the different exercises. There is so much clear detailed info. Its awesome. Is there any standard amount of time for rebuild? I may have not come across it yet.

If you use extra weight then you can really only do abs max twice a week
