Lots of people seem to want an idea of what it takes to reach a desired percent body fat. This formula that I use comes from the Army Physical Fitness School, FT Benning, GA. Here it is, you will need a calculator:
LBM = BW X (1.00 - % BF)
KEY: LBM = LEAN BODY MASS BW = BODY WEIGHT BF = BODY FAT
TW = LBM divided by (1.00 - Desired % BF)
KEY: TW = TARGET WEIGHT
Here is an example of how to work this formula: Individual is 180 lbs. 25% BF and wants to be at 18% BF. 1 - .25%BF = .75 .75 X BW180 = 135 LBM 1 - .18%BF = .82 TW = 135 divided by .82 = 165 TW 180 - 165 = 15 LBS LOSE: 15 lbs to reach desired TW of 165 and make your desired BF of 18%
