What do I do if I have no bench and the exercise requires me to use one? Can I substitute it for something else?

I have the same problem - I just improvise. For example, the Dips Behind the Back exercise - I don't have a bench but I have a straight arm rest on a futon that I use. It is tough to improvise on everything you need a bench for; just this week I was wondering if I should buy one. :)

If you plan on working out at home mostly, a bench becomes invaluable. And, you can probably pick one up for less than $100.

Yeah, benches are very reasonable, I got mine for $70 at sportmart.com and the shipping was free! =)

My advise, get a bench. If you really can't afford one or truly don't have the space, the floor is called the poor man's bench.
