I have started running recently and I have a o2 monitor that I have used to check my heart rate and o2 level, and I was wondering if anybody knows if your o2 level is supposed to increase, decrease or stay the same as your resting o2 level. Any info would be appreciated.

Wrong! As you exercise the demand for oxygen goes up at the cellular level and puts a huge demand on the lungs to get rid of C02(carbon dioxide) and replace the oxygen. You only have so much hemoglobin to carry oxygen and very little time at the lung to make the switch. That is why we measure how the body uses oxygen (Vo2)efficiently or not. Go up a flight of stairs and watch your oxygen saturation, which is what that monitor is measuring(amount of O2 at the capillary level(not arterial or venous but mixed blood), and your level will go down. The return of the level to "normal" and the rate lat which this happens tells you how "fit" your lungs are. The fitter or more aerobically in shape you become then the faster the return lto baseline and also slower at which the level drops.

Thank you for both of your input. It is really appreciated! I was kind of worried for a while. My O2 level did decrease and I got a little worried. But thanks for the input guys!

Is it true that drinking carbonation makes it more difficult for a person who runs. Meaning, do they get winded more and adversely affect their ability to improve on their times?
