Should you feel muscle burn when you work out? I don't get much burn or pumped feeling working out. Sometimes I get a muscle pain and then I quit that rep, but after a short rest I can go on.

I get an intense burn in most muscles and continue to push untill I fail. I LOVE IT! I get my most intense burns with isolation movements. If you have a good training partner get him into the mindset of pushing you past failure. If he's reluctent to hurt you like this then you can effect a slight change in his personality by a little well placed verbal abuse directed in his direction. Sounds like that's what you need!:)

I usually get some burns in most basic exercises after the point of failure, I have my partner help me until I completely can't move the weight anymore. Then I do 3 more partial reps, this really helps me to stimulate grow in all my muscle fibres. BUT, pain is something different, it might be due to a lack of warming up or stretching before the work out.

I'm like "Amr_Mr.Olympia" I can get my muscles to burn with most basic exercises, but I really have to focus on correct form. If I slack off a little in my form I don't always get the burn. Also "skeld2001" is correct when saying you should get a burn when doing isolation exercises and a partner can help push you to failure and again have good form.

Thanks for your comments. I'm hoping that I have good form. I do have a few problems that I have to be very carefull about such as 4 herniated disc's in my back but over the years I've learned how to protect that part and I just developed arthur in my hands, so I use a combination of the bowflex, leverage bench and free weights so if one bothers me I use something else. Once again I thank you for your comments. It sounds as if you've all been there before. Thanks again Keith

Thanks for your comments. I do go to failure sometimes but even then I don't get a burn. I also do about 5-6min. on a exercise bike and then streches for legs, arms, back, and lats, also sometimes when I'm working out. When you can't move the weight anymore and do the 3 partial reps do you rest at all or just go into them? I use a bowflex, free weights and a leverage bench so I don't need a spotter. I just don't want to tear anything if I can help it. Thanks again Keith

Thanks for your comments. I don't have a training partner because I work out in my garage with a bowflex, but I can push myself if I know how far to go. Some times I get to failure but still no burn. I will try some isolation movements and see if that helps. Thanks again and I'll keep in touch. Keith

Muscle burn tells you how much you are consintrating on a muscle. It took me about 4 years to feel the burn. It's something you have to learn to feel. It takes time.

Usually you ge tthe 'burning' sensation when you do high rep sets and lactic acid builds up in your muscles....if you're doign lower rep sets...this probably won't happen...and the 'burning' sensation nor the 'pump' sensation are necessary to achieve good results....
