Hi, just joined the club and have lots of issues- to start I am 46, recently told have hypothroid (taking Synthroid) and am permenapause. I am 5 ft 5 and weigh 98 pounds. From shoulders to waist am VERY skinny, from waist to knees, need alot of work. Have bulge tummy and flappy thighs and thick butt. I know I can not spot lose, my thoughts are this:

I need to lose the fatty areas first, currently use bike for cardo and bowflex for workouts. We have tons of free weights available. Have been on a good diet routine (nutrious foods) but do not seem to budge the problem areas. I really am not wanting to lose much weight, but need to get the areas under control.

Any thoughts on the type of program I should be on would be much appreciated. Can be reached at e-mail mccalm@msn.com; will also check in here for answers. Thank you again Linda ö¿ö

You need to start a steady weight lifting program. Use this site to help set you up on a program, (at least 4 days per week working the entire body. You want to perform exercises for your lower body that work a variety of muscle groups. (squats, lunges, stiff leg dead lifts, leg extensions, leg curls). You also want to include an Ab routine that groups together 4 or 5 Ab exercises and go from one to the other. Do this for 5 to 10 minutes. You can continue riding the bike for a t least 20 minutes 3xweek. Do not be hesitant to use heavier weights as you progress in your workouts. The more muscle you are able to stimulate the more fat you will lose. Drink plenty of water (distilled) . Try to use Natural supplements instead of prescription drugs for your thyroid problem. Stay focused and committed to your workouts.

Anthony.

Thank you for the responses and I am not particular to which gender helps LOL. I am currently using the program designed here; using mostly freeweights and the bowflex on occassion. I have found the need to substitute some exercises for the reccommended ones, based on the equiptment we have available. I workout 4 times a week, and use the bike on the same days. I am exhausted from each workout and increase weights as much as possible. Do not have alot of stamina, but put all I can into each workout.

I would love to go natural for the thyroid issues rather than the prescribed meds. Have not found alot of information on what to do. Have been on the doc prescribed med for about one month now and hope it has not caused an irreversable issue. Not real sure what to do.

Thanks again for your advise. This seems to be a good site and I look forward to it continuing to help me through this.

Thanks alot for the support. It seems to be slow going as there does not seem to be any budge from the tummy and upper thighs, but all in all I feel better so it is worth it. Thanks again :-)

If that is the first place you want it gone, it will be the last place to go.

I think your doing just fine mam...but do consider talking things out with a trainer or specialist and express your training your goals clearly to him. he consequently should be able to give you the green light on what exercises to do reg. and which ones to avoid for the time being.

good luck :-)
