Lay off the weights for a few days definitly. The effects of back injuries can be cumulative, so nurse it back to health and use common sense in restarting training. Ibuprofen, asprin, or sodium naproxen will help some with swelling. You can use hot and cold therapy to help promote healing. Other than that take it easy and try not to reinjure it. reapeted injury to the back can can cause spinal misalignments over time. I've been down that road before, and it ain't fun, so be careful.

The hot and cold therapy is great with cold especially when a flare-up start to shrink the capillaries and keep the inflammation down. Ice packs to the back for awhile makes the area numb but feel really good. Try slow stretches to strengthen the area and watch your mecganics when lifting and moving. At this sdtage it helps to think before moving. Massage works well as well as accupuncture as well as TENS/PENS(electric nerve stimulation. All a matter of degree. Good luck with the recovery.

Yeah skylar, I forgot about stretching. Helped me alot! Inever used the TENS unit untill I was in the hospital. (Incoming pun!) It was very shocking at first. But after I got used to it it was great! I'd lay in my hospital bed and stick the electrodes on different muscles to get the contractions. I used it that way so much I even got a little DOMS from it. I wanted to take it home with me. But it costs!

I injured my back in high school by doing incorrect leg presses. I think I just put too much weight. And after then my back has not been whole. But I've noticed riding a bike helps strengthen my back. Other than doing lat pulldowns I haven't really done anything to exercise it.

I've have the same problem. This is the most annoying injury I've had in a while. I've pulled it twice in the past two weeks. I first pulled the right side rolling over in bed, then the left side on military presses. I'm open to any suggestions on stretching and warming up that area of the back.
