2 years ago, I was in the body for life contest. I was performing squats of 190 pounds, have done many previously, but this day I blew out my right kneee...there went the contest. I know am squatting 250 pounds for 6 reps. I have 4 spotters too just incase. Also to let you know, 9 years ago I had 3 five inch plates set in my vertibra. I use spotters quite alot only for safety.

I squat 450 and have never had any injury from weight. If you use proper form and control the weight you should never have an injury. The only time i have ever been injured lifting weights is when my form has been sloppy.

4 of them...why don't you just try some other exericse like leg presses or lunges they are much safer.

you should stay away from squats if your knee and your back were messed up cause u stress both of them alot in that lift

I have noted when I bench the regular 170 4 sets of 10 that I'm used to that more than my max or if you want to call it bragging weight. Is 190 your regular weight or were you trying to do something that your not used to which will screw up your form and balance. Then your other muscles try to correct yourself and you step out for balance and lose it, be careful and know your limits, it is only a contest! Besides that, why would you need 4 spotters if you squat that 250 regularly? Knees and backs dont go out for nothing, dont lift so much!

Exactly, drop the weight, watch the form, and gradually increase

If you go for weight you'll end up with tree trunks for mobility (not that that's a bad thing). If you're going for tone, use good form, lower weight and higher reps. I'm still trying to picture 4 spotters though...?

Yeah I know what you mean....but precautions do matter.....you can avoid an injury by staying in the right posture of the exercise and knowing what one can lift and his limits....i see guys doing exercises in the gym absolutely wrong and with way too much weights.....thats wrong.
