I am 6 weeks post major abdominal surgery and I am fully back to pre-surgery fitness levels,(weight lifting, 3hr trail runs, skiing, etc.). I listened to my doctor's advice but I also pushed my body to heal at a pace that I knew I was capable of. Women with similar surgeries told me to stay in bed and have friends and family wait on me for at least a week or two. I refused, I did everything I possibly could on my own from the moment I woke up from anesthesia.

I learned again how important a positive mental attitude is to the healing process. And how important it is to really listen to our bodies. Don't over do it to prove a point, but also don't sit around on a couch just because someone told you to.
