Supplements can be a great aid with your health and fitness goals. Combined with the proper exercise and nutritional plan they can be quite effective.

I have two choices for a weight gainer that i will order. Now, i know most people dislike weight gainers so i'll give some background info.

I am about 175 lbs, 5ft9, bf% 15. My goal is to gain about 10-15 lbs of muscle. Obviously to build muscle at an optimum rate and to gain weight you have to have a good amount of calories per day spread between 5-6 meals. Now i know whole foods are superior to supplements, but i would prefer about 4 meals of real food and complement a clean diet with 1 or two weight gainer shakes to substitutes as meals.

The weight gainers i want to compare are as follows:
BSN TRUE Mass

(145 grams)

calories (626)
protein (46 grams)
fat (15.5 grams, 5grams are saturated)
sugar (13.5 grams)
carbs (75 grams)

This shake seams to have higher quality protein in the form of ultra-filtered whey concentrate, micro-filtered whey isolate whey and casein protein but it has a significant amount of fat and sugar per serving.

Next weight gainer: Ultimate Nutrition ISo Max Extreme

(153 grams)

calories (650)
protein (65 grams)
fat (7 grams)
sugar (5 grams)
carbs (80 grams)

This shake has less sugar and fat per serving but the ingredients list whey protein isolate and milk protein isolate.

Which would you recommend?

I'd go with choice #2. A bit less sugar and more protein.

Yes, my only concern with #2 is that it doesn't seem to have high quality protein atleast not compared to #1.

You can make your own weight gainer for allot cheaper at trueprotein.com

I buy Milk Protein Isolate for like less then 8 bucks a pound and blend cottage cheese and peanut butter if you add some ice you got a cold great shake.

In mornings just add Oats and frozen fruit.

Nice suggestion sfgiantsmvp, but obviously it's still going to cost some money to buy the cottage cheese, peanut butter, and the powder etc. I would be consuming a shake twice a day ( morning, post-workout). So is this really cost effective when i'll be consuming about 60 shakes a month?

Where i am at (Canada), 500 grams of cottage cheese is about $2.50 and natural peanut butter ( small jar) is about $2. How much cottage cheese and peanut butter would i add? And would i mix all the ingredients with milk or water? Does milk protein and all those ingredients taste good with water instead of milk?
