So I've started exercising recently, after being, mostly, completely sedentary. I started working out on an elliptical machine and I try to keep track of my time, miles, heart rate, and calories burned. I weigh 280 lbs. and am 5' 9". That's important because I'm not sure if I'm doing enough. I've been conditioning thus far and I do about 5-9 miles a day...everyday. (Except Sunday) I get my heart rate up to 150bpm and I can usually keep it there for about 15-20 mins before I have to take it slower. Is this enough? I LOVE the elliptical and eventually I want to move on to the tread mill and some aerobics classes. Am I on the right path? What should I be eating? My ultimate goal is to lose 50 pounds by summer 2009. According to the machine I use, I burn about 700-1200 calories per day. Is that accurate? And is it enough to reach my goal? I need some knowledge!

I think you will find yourself making more progress if you add strength training to your regimine. It will also help the weight come off assuming you get your diet in order. Check out the nutrition forum for some eating ideas so you can ask a bit more specific questions. "What should I be eating?" covers a lot of territory. :) Putting your gender in your profile will also help responders with some future answers believe it or not.
