muscle soreness and FT

I just joined FT a week ago and copied the online training program plus the abs program. I was expecting muscle soreness when I started because of the new execises, but I didn't have any. Should I increase on weights, rest time or what? My muscle growth has been slow.

are you are working to the point where failure is ocurring as you get to the last rep? If you still have enough muscle to preform more reps, then you should increase the weight to the point where getting the last rep is a scary thing! If you have a partner or spotter then you can add even more weight and get him to help you complete the last 2 or 3 reps (called forced reps) It's a great way to grow. Increase the weight whenever you can. That is part of the reason it's called progresive resistance training. Also shorten rest periods whenever you can.

I have not been going to failure all the time on every workout. I have been increasing my weights about 5-10 lbs. each time and I think I'm just about to the point your talking bout and I think I've been taking to long on my rest periods. I usually take 1 - 2 min. rest. Thanks again Keith.

I didn't see many changes until towards the end of week 2 but anything is possible. Working to failure at the end of each exercise has worked very well for me. If you're at a weight where you can't move up in lbs. increase the number of reps with that weight.

I have had the muscle soreness for the reasons many have mentioned. I don't work out with someone and I work out very early so I fear too much weight and getting injured because of it. At the same time I want the burn, breakdown, and rebuild. Work to failure, but safely, and I do believe that you will feel the soreness. I started on my program, Mass and Abs, this week and I can definitely feel it. Good luck with your work!!!
