Hello,
I am new to the world of women's bodybuilding. I went to my first competition last year and absolutely enjoyed it. I knew then that I wanted to increase my weight training and maybe one day do a show. So now as I restructure my weight training program I am finding that I have a few questions about training for the competition. How long is it necessary to train before a competition? At what point before the competition do you increase your training load? Also with fitness and bodybuilding shows what are the main differences in body type are they looking for?

Well normally you'll need at least a year, but that depends on you and how you look now. It took me four months to get ready to my first competition.
I do figure and fitness contest, I cannot do bodyfitness or bodybuilding (as I wanted in the beginning) since I'm 5'11 tall and all my muscles are darn long and not BIG enough!!!! (grrrrrr lol) I guess the difference in the catogories is all a question about size. Make somebody experienced look at you.
The diet normally starts 3 months out and the amount of cardio and weight training depends on each person and the body fat %

Thanks for your advice. I really appreciate it. :) I have been working out since the middle of June. The competition isn't until April 2003. I am just wondering how long does it take for muscle mass to show up. I am 5'6 and weigh about 140. I am kind of on the skinny toned side. So it's hard for me to gain muscle mass. I am at a loss here as to how to gain more muscle mass. I eat a lot, but I don't want the foods to go to the wrong areas. Also I have a question about supplements. Is it ok for women to take supplements? They won't have too many negative side effects will they?

Ya know, I a think I may want to find a comp to be in next year sometime; I think it'll help keep me motivated, but first let me get through this darn half-marathon, sheesh!

None, I wish I were in good enough shape to do one now, but I think by next year it'll be more doable.

Good luck to you. You can do it. =) I am in the same boat. I have been lifting again now for a month. Hopefully I will be ready for my first competition next spring.
