For what ever reason, it hurts me to do lunges or squats. (my knees and tail bone) Its really hard. Can any body recommend any other exercises to do for the thighs/legs/butt besides those? I need to do more than just dead lifts, ha ha.

go see a doctor if it hurts, but does it hurt with just bodyweight or with heavy weights?....need to have it looked at is my personal advice having a previous knee injury you could have something very wrong or maybe nothing at all but have it checked out

I always make sure I do some light stretches before squats and lunges. A good one for Squats is to put your feet together and squat (butt to heel) and with your hands push your knees together...then make sure you stretch your hams and gluts as well. I'm not talking about a long hard stretch...just a light short stretch. If this actually causes pain then you should see a Dr.

Also do about 5-7 minutes of light cardio (bike/elliptical) just to get the blood pumping first as well.

As far as I know I don't have any major injuries (I am a nurse and I just had a complete physical). However I am fever hyperflexia (double-jointed) almost every where and some exercises have always been difficult for me to do. My old roommate was a personal trainer and she'd spot me and make sure I was doing propper form and I even tried using one of those exercise balls to put behind my back against the wall, just I struggle so bad with squats. To be honest even with out weight it hurts. I am not over weight. I am 5'6" and weight 129lbs. Perhaps just that badly out of shape? But its always been uncomfortable for me to do those two things...

are you using proper form? 95% of people do squats wrong....

have you tried a wider stance? are u sitting back far enough? are you going low enough?

Step ups are a good alternative.....using various heights....

As far as I know form wasn't a problem....Like I said my old roommate was a personal trainer at 24 hour fitness and she'd spot me to make sure I was using proper form. I'll have to try step-ups.... How exactly do you do them?
