Maximum Heart Rate

I keep reading that you need to do a work out at 70% of your maximum heart rate, and i was wondering how to figure out my maximum HR and stuff like that. If you could help it would greatly be appriciated

LIke this:

220- your age is your max HR. Then do the math for the %.

So if your 17......220 -17=203 (max HR) 70% of 203 =142HR
