I'm thinking of buying an exercise bike. I jog but I heard cycling burns more calories? Plus, I get to stay indoors. :-) Would it also help tone my legs?
Thanks.

I would save the money...jogging is better...and if you want to increase the intensity...start RUNNING...at least in intervals....RUN for 30 sec at fast pace then slow down and recover with a slower jog for couple minutes then repeat...
Jump Rope is an excellent alternative to a bike and MUCH cheaper....
want to 'tone' your legs?....then start doing Squats and Deadlifts....
I am not a jogger, I like mountain bikes so keep that in mind as I give my thoughts.
I got a recumbent from Wally World, 110 smackers. It has a heart rate monitor and calorie counter as well as distance and a magnetic resistance system.
It sits in the same room as the TV. It’s a great way to watch a ball game, as I tend to have a little nervous energy at those times any way. I will also watch a movie while pumping away at it.. I don’t know about if its better or worse than jogging and I am sure it isn’t the cardio level. But I know after a thousand calorie flick I can sure feel the upper legs argue about it as I try to go upstairs for a snack.
The Recumbent part makes the sitting of it more comfy for my uses. It’s easier on the back, and I think it allows or at least invites more resistance than an upright bike. I find the seat aspect inviting to use as a chair and therefore the opportunity to go ahead and give a few reps while eating a bowl of ice cream.
Can’t hurt for rainy days if you can spare the space.
Then again with all this said sometimes I watch the tube while running in place, as I like to feel the shake burn the fat. While the bike sits they’re waiting for turn it wont get that day. I’m a gadget lover, But over all I like the option.
