I signed up on this site a while back and did the one where you just do various exercises without weight machines. Right now i'm saving up and I really want to buy something to use...like an ab lounge or something but I don't want to spend that much money. I'm at a loss to as what really works. Right now I'm about 40 pounds overweight and have a tight schedual with work, school, etc. Would buying an exercise dvd like turbo jam be a good way to have aerobic exercise and also tone / gain muscle? I've read that I need a good mix of both aerobic / strength training (and of course eating) to get fit. What would be best for a budget - exercise DVDS (if so, which one?) or free weights and a plan from here. I've done the ones w/o free weights and it seems they're just focused on gaining muscle and not losing weight. I guess my real question is do those exercise dvds work the same / better compared to going to the gym or using weights or running. I'm confused about aerobic / weight training, etc and what i need and what is cheap.

Running/Jogging is cheaper than any DVD(since it's...FREE) and all you need is to continuously push yourself in some aspect(time, distance, pace)....if you want you can be a jump rope ...also a very effective and effecient piece of equipment...
If you buy anything then get yourself a pair of adjustable dumbells or a barbell set at a used equipment store...pull up bar is also cheap and useful.
Ab Lounge and the rest of those gadgets are worthless...save your money....

I run / jog, but that's just aerobic. I read that I need some sort of strength training too (its ideal to have both). Would an exercise dvd like turbo jam do that? I read that they have a 20 min full body workout or something. I could buy some weights, but not too many because I don't have much room. But with the weights - that would be just strength training, how would that help me lose weight?
