Hello,
I am 17 years old and I am 6'1" and about 235 pounds. Now with my height and the general build of my body, I am able to mostly get away with it and wear my weight pretty well, so I do not look obsese. However, it has been my goal for some time to shed weight. My weight was actually another 10 pounds, but due to recent surgery (Nissen Fundoplication), I was able to shed pounds. The one beauty about the surgery is that it has prevented me from drinking sodas, which I was an addict on, and basically just drink Gatorade now.
But my goal is this: next summer, I will be heading down to the New Jersey shore to meet up with some dear friends of mine and I definitely do NOT want to go there, take off my shirt and be a ball of flab. My goal is the general one: I would like to be able to lose a good 30 pounds to get down to an acceptable weight level, plus the usual goal: reduce the size of my stomach and have a toned body. I'm not looking to have a body builder's body... just merely a nice, toned, flat and in shape body.
Of course there are issues, ones I know I need to start working on and I am not good with them. My sleeping habits are about as bad as one can be: I don't fall asleep until 5-6 A.M., so I'm not up until 2-3 P.M. (insomnia) and eating breakfast until 4 P.M. And it's usually that and then dinner at about 8-9 P.M. And I can get late night snack cravings at about 2-3 A.M. or something and I know that this is absolute suicide to losing weight and achieving my goal and I am definitely planning to work on them.
However, there are certain limitations I have physically. I have trouble bending down and I can't really bend down much, so I wonder, while this obviously hinders any program, whether I can still attain my goal within the time period, which is about a year and whether any diets or exercise programs can be recommended, under these circumstances. Your help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

Well first of all, kudos to your good grammar-- in contrast to most 17 year olds on the internet these days.
Secondly, your goal can be reached easily. I lost about 30 pounds in 3 months. You can healthily lose 1-2 pounds a week. The fact that you can't bend down very well will stop you from doing certain weight exercises, like dead lifts, but it shouldn't interfere so bad as to slow down your weight loss.
If you put yourself on a weight training program, it'll definitely help your weight loss and overall look in the long run.
When I first began I setup an upper body/lower body weight lifting program. It's great for beginners for a month or two. Just make sure you give yourself a day or two of rest each week. I also just did 20-30 minutes of cardio after lifting.
If you're unable to lift weights for some reason, up your cardio sessions to 60 minutes if you can to burn more calories.
But really, the diet is key. Do research in the food forum here and find out how many calories you need a day to maintain weight, then begin eating 200-300 calories less than that (of course, you must eat the RIGHT foods), to create a calorie deficit.
Once you begin a workout program, it may help your sleeping problem. If you work hard during the day, you'll feel tired by night and sleep more regularly.
This is all advice from how I began about 6 months ago, and it's all been working great-- take it or leave it.
