if you simply change the way you eat, can you lose weight? i'm used to eating a lot of sweets and eating out. i have completely cut sweets out of my diet and i cook every night now... should i begin to see a dramatic difference? i'm not overweight by any means... but i'm getting married and i need to lose a few inches post hast! :surprised:

diet is the key, but i don't know if "just" cutting the sweets is enough, you may have to change your habit :) you can do some cardio as an extention of your diet

You need to figure out your maintenance calories. A great way to do this is to start a food log. Once you know your maintenance calories start cutting back slowly until you start to see results. Keep your diet high in protein and low in healthy fats and try to eat mostly healthy carbs. Read through the nutrition forum to get some great ideas of what to eat. Also start exercising, being active will make a big differenc. Good Luck!:)

To dumb it down, just incase you need that...

maintenance calories = how many calories you need to maintain weight

basically if you eat less calories than you need to maintain weight, you start losing weight. Like manny said, you need a healthy diet though.. less calories of the wrong foods still wont do the trick.

Exercise will speed the process up obviously-- but then you need more calories than if you weren't exercising.
