The reaction that causes weight gain after quitting smoking is a physical reaction that you need to be aware of. When you smoke you get an instant glucose spike which causes you to not feel hungry...so after you quit you do lose this apatite suppressant. The other way to get this glucose spike is to eat...problem with that is it takes 20 minutes before that glucose spike kicks in from food. So take a look at the timing and you'll understand it better.
As a smoker you did this:
Eat for 10 minutes...go smoke...glucose spike...you're full
After you quit smoking you do this:
Eat for 20-30 minutes...glucose spike...you're full...you just ate 2-3 X's more then before.
So now that you know what causes this put down the smokes and get your life back.
Just so you know I quit last month on the 16th with no patches, gums, whohaa's or thingamajiggies. The first 3-4 days are the hardest because that's actually when you're body is going through nicotine cravings. Beyond that it's purely a mental game.

I was going to type up another long drawn out thing. However thought I'd keep this post short and sweet...
The first thing I had to overcome when I quit smoking after 15 years was the habit of making excuses.
