i work out with a lady that has had back surgery and wants to do ab exercises with us but cannot do all the ones we do. Does anyone have any exercises in mind that will go easy on the lower back but will still work the lower abs? (other than the butterfly crunch)....thanks!!

That's one that a lot of us will shy away from. I had back surgery and didn't listen to the docs and luckily wound up just fine although I delayed the healing process. A whole lot depends on how long ago and the type of surgery. She should have received a therapy program from her surgeon or doctor.

Ok! Thank you for answering back so quickly - she just left the gym a few minutes ago and we did crunches with a a small exercise ball held between the knees squeezin' with each rep and that seemed to tighten upper and lower w/o too much strain on her lower back
Have a great weekend!!
