Im slightly concerned because recently Iv noticed my back is getting stronger than my chest. For instance my max deadlift is about 309lbs and my low pull is about four reps at 176lbs yet with the bench press I start to struggle with 55lbs and I can only just knock out 4 reps of 88lbs on the chest press.

Is this normal or should I concentrate on my chest more ?

For my chest I usually do

2-3 sets of 10, 8, 6, 4 incline dumbell press
2 sets of 8, 8, 6 on the peck deck
2 sets of 10, 8, 6, 4 on the chest press

Cheers

My guess for that is you're using lower reps on the back exercises...thereby building strength....while using comparatively higher reps for chest building endurance/muscle...

as a suggestion I would start my chest/pushing exercises with big barbell exercises...and maybe include DBs as a last exercise...and skip the machine....

to test your bench press:
do 12 reps at 50% of 1rm
rest couple minutes
do 3 reps at 75% of 1rm
rest 3 minutes
do 1 rep at 90% of 1rm
rest 3-5 min
do 1 rep at what you think is 1rm....

Make sure to have a spotter on the last 2 sets...make sure they are off the bar and don't catch the weight unless u tell them to help....

Generally however having a stronger back than chest is normal ... as it is a considerably bigger muscle....
