I'm 16 (in a few months), I weigh 240 lbs, and I seriously wan't to lose weight. I've tried numerous routines but after about 2 weeks I get bored of it, and I lose motivation very fast. See, the problem is I live in a very rural area and there are no gyms and I don't know what kind of equipment I need to effectively lose weight and I don't have the spare cash to spend on expensive equipment.
I'm hoping to lose 60-100 lbs before I graduate from Grade 12, but I'm running out of time (I set that goal 2 years ago) and it seems I just gain weight instead of lose it because I can't get an effective routine going and cannot keep motivated.
Any idea's are appreciated...
Thanks.

Hang in there, there is no need for a gym to reach your goals, check out the FT programs here and you can find ways to incorporate exercise into your life. Sometimes when we give ourselves goals, the pressure seems to take over us and we react by getting further from them, I would suggest starting with small steps, change your habits a little at a time until you have made a lifestyle change. STOP POP! The calories and carbs in those buggers are horrendous! I hate diet pop, but had decided it will have to do if/when I want one. There are some good flavored waters, too, that are tasty and nearly no-cal, I keep them in the 'fridge and drink one a day and then regular water the rest of the day. STOP eating bad for you snacks, a Little Debbie Honey Bun (larger) has nearly 600 calories! A apple pie approx. 500! My husband was eating two of the apple pies a day and about three Mountain Dews, that is at least 1,250 calories! Start eating 5-6 meals a day, it works good as when you are hungry you eat so you aren't ever really hungry! Remember it takes about 15 minutes before your brain recognizes you are full! Eat small bites and wait 30 seconds between each bite, my son complained that his food got colder, but he did it and found it worked good!
Just implement 1 or 2 things a week, add exercise and you got 'er!
Good luck to you!

1. Keep at it! It's will be much easier to incorporate activity and healthy eating patterns at your age now, than it sometimes is 10 years down the road! I wish at 16 someone had set me straight about proper nutrition and the benefits of just MOVING.
2. Set a small goal. 60-100lbs. is INCREDIBLY daunting. Set a small goal like 10lbs. and work towards that. Right now my goal is to lose 4 pounds, and I have about 60 to lose total. It's SO much easier looking at 4 than it is 60!
3. Take small steps. If completely cutting out soda is too hard, cut it down to one a day. Cut out second portions. Take a walk around the block instead of heading out for a 5 mile jog. Again, it's so muche easier to deal with smaller challenges. I like to walk for an hour, but I found that if I didn't have a whole hour to walk, I ended up not going. BAD! A 20 minute walk is better than nothing, if nothing else, it gets you in the habit of going, and that's half the battle right?
4. Tell people! Make sure your family and friends know that you're trying to get in shape. If your parents cook your meals, see if they can cut down on things, make them healthier. Maybe one of your friends (or family) can be an exercise buddy and you can walk/ride bike with them to keep you motivated.
5. MUSIC! I MUST have music when I walk, certain songs will just pump you up so much!
And finally, you really HAVE TO WANT IT. You can sit and make a million excuses why you can't do something, but they are only excuses. You CAN do anything you put your mind to.
And you don't need a gym, all you need is a pair of sneakers and a place to walk - around the block, at the mall, wherever. Just walk walk walk.
