Hey collegetry...cardio-wise they are better than nothing but be warned...My mother buys all that crap and everytime the things either fall apart or something goes wrong with them. I think she has the Gazelle model, the one that is always on the infomercials, it is basically an elliptical controlled by two little pistons. Well the pistons get so hot after 2 minutes that if you touch them you can seriously get burnt and after a couple weeks the screws holding the treads for the elliptical actually snapped and the whole thing fell apart...they are really poorly made and will end up sitting in your exercise graveyard in your basement or guest room.

I have one that cost around $400 (Australian dollars) and it is great - been using it for nearly a year now - no probs with it at all. Hubby uses it as well.
Reasonable price doesn't always mean crap - sometimes you are only paying for an overpriced name.

I have a lower end eliptical, it all depends on how hard you decide to work. Keep your heart rate up for 20-30 min and you are fine

So, I've read the reviews online. Everyone seems to say the less costly elipticals are crap. The ones they sell for less than a couple hundred bucks(at Wal-mart,Sears,Crappy tire).

My reality is that I'd have to go with one of these. We can't afford a pricey one, there's not a gym close, and I need someway of doing cardio indoors, Canadian winter is coming.

Is it worth buying an inexspensive model to get started? Anything is better than nothing right.

I've priced used units in my area for top end models and they are still pricey(near Ottawa). Any advice would be great.

Thanx
