Hey Everyone, im a little new to this but i really want to learn. Im in good shape but nothing special and i was hoping to increase my muscle size (mainly in my arms and pecks). My only problem is that i dont have alot of money to buy much equipment (or room to store it) and there isnt a gym the i can afford in my area. I was hoping for some basic help with increasing upper body muscle with limited suppplies (only got 2 good dumb bells)
if there are any house excersises like good ol' fashion push ups that i can learn, please help!
Thanks!!

I see weights at yard sales all the time. Check out your local Shopper if you have one. 75% of all exercise listed will say "barely used". People buy the stuff, use it for 2 or 3 weeks (if that much) get a little sore or bored and there it sits. I picked up an older commercial grade 8 station machine for $300 several years ago.

Also do a web search at ASK.com or Google for used sporting equipment stores. In RI we have stores called 'Play It again Sports" I don't know if any other states have that store. Also try resale shops or The Salvation Army.

if you have the facillity and the knowledge to do this correctly and safely, a good way round your situation is to attach a pulley wheel to a ceiling and a bout 2 feet away a second pulley and then another one directly belllow the second attached to the floor, get some good high grade climbing rope cut off two pieces of the rope. make sure one piece is long enough to thread through both pulleys and touch the floor both ends and cut a second piece shorter. for pulldowns im sure your getting the jist this home made macheine will get you a good start, it shouldent be to difficult to find something that you can hang on the rope that you can adjust its weight.

Thanks for the tips guys. I've been looking for some garage sales but its not quite garage sale weather anymore, havent had any luck finding a used equipment store or anything but im looking into it. now, the pulley idea is more what im thinking.. im gonna give that a go and see if i can construct that device. if anyone else has any home made ideas or "at home" workouts i'd be more than interested to hear them
Thanks again

If nothing else you can always hang a piece of galvanized pipe somewhere and have a good chin up bar. Pipe is cheap. :) Use your body weight till it gets easy then tie some plates to your waist. If you don't have plates, you can always use coffee cans full of dirt, the imagination is full of stuff and it sound like you have the desire so the means will come.

To elaberate on the pulley system. You could get a lenght of pipe about a meter in lengh, drill a hole in each end, put a bolt through one end and a steel hook in the other. now if your budget can stretch to a few plates you can slip them onto the pipe. The bolt will hold them on and you can attach the rope to the hook end. this will allow you to adjust the weight to suit the particular exersise. just take care that your pulleys are anchord correctly though and your rope is up to the job and dont allow the weights to be susspended above your head at any time.
