Can anyone advise me on what they think is a sustainable low body fat level for men? I understand that a lot of people enter into either transformation, bodybuilding or other kinds of fitness competitions and are thus trying to get their bodyfat absolutely as low as possible, even if that means hitting a level that they cannot continue at all year round. I am not in any such competitions. I am trying to get as lean as possible, but only want to go so far as I can reasonably maintain. I am 6'3" and 173 lbs. My two most recent body fat tests have have shown 12.5% and 13.5% body fat. My original goal was to get to 8%. Asssuming I can even get there, is that sustainable year round? Am I better off in the 10% - 12% range? Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

My advice to you would be to be healthy first and foremost. Whatever BF% level is healthy for your body. Everyone is different. We get our body fat down very low for competitions, but this is just temporary. Actually we are pretty suceptible to virus's, like colds and flu at this point due to the trauma we are putting our bodies through with extreme dieting and workouts. I say the best thing is reach a bf% where you feel you look good, and most of all feel healthy. Most people you see with their abs showing all the time have dieted hard to get there, and have done it either for advertising purposes or contests. Most of us in the off season do not have our abs showing all the time. It is very misleading due to media. This is long winded, but hope it makes sense.
