Hi Everyone,
I'm a 43 year-old female with more than 100 lbs to lose.
I started working out with a trainer in June. We were doing weights (free weights, barbells and cable machines -- 3 sets/15 reps each to failure), balance ball exercises, bosu ball exercises, exercises with a step bench, etc. I was losing an average of 10 lbs/mo and about 12 inches/mo (all over). I worked out twice a week with the trainer, and then did one day a week on my own weight training and then 4-5 days of cardio. I could feel myself building muscle. However, although I was seeing results, I thought I could be working harder, adding more weight, etc.
That trainer quit the gym and for the last month I've had a new trainer and I am not getting as good results.
With my new trainer I am doing free weights and barbells, but he has me using lighter weights where I do as many reps as I can for say 45-60 seconds, then rest. I usually do 3 sets of these. He also has me using resistance bands and my own body weight for resistance. Unlike my other trainer, this one pays close attention to my HR while we're training and keeps me in my aerobic zone. He's also added small amounts of cardio during some of my session to make them interval training sessions. The workouts are hard and I feel like I am working a lot harder than with my other trainer. I'm continuing to do my one additional workout a week on my own, as well as my 4-5 cardio sessions. However, while I still lost about 10 lbs last month, I only lost about 5 inches off my body. Also, I don't feel like I am building muscle with his workouts.
I'm wondering what to do? Should I give this new trainer's workouts some time to see how they impact me? Should I ask him to train me more like my first trainer?
I'm getting my body fat measured for the first time on Saturday. I'll get it measured again in three months. However, I don't want to spend the time and money on these workouts only to find three months later that they had little impact on me.
Help! Please!

Weight always comes off faster in the beginning. As your body gets into better shape, there is less weight to loose, and fewer inches to shave off, so it is natural for results to slow down. It sounds like you have already made tremendous strides in the past few months- Congratulations! But lonegirl is right- if you are unhappy with your regimen, talk to your trainer or get a new one.
