Hi i found this very helpful info about how much alcohol u should be drinking, and the safe limit, and how to calculate the amount of units. take some time to read through, whether ur a social drinker or a very light drinker, u will find this info very useful.
What are the recommended limits of alcohol drinking? Men should drink no more than 21 units of alcohol per week (and no more than four units in any one day). Women should drink no more than 14 units of alcohol per week (and no more than three units in any one day). Pregnant women. If you have one or two drinks of alcohol (one or two units), once or twice a week, it is unlikely to harm your unborn baby. However, the exact amount that is safe is not known. So, many women have little or no alcohol when they are pregnant. What is a unit of alcohol? One unit of alcohol is 10 ml (1 cl) by volume, or 8 g by weight, of pure alcohol. For example: One unit of alcohol is about equal to: Half a pint of ordinary strength beer, lager, or cider (3–4% alcohol by volume), or A small pub measure (25 ml) of spirits (40% alcohol by volume), or A standard pub measure (50 ml) of fortified wine such as sherry or port (20% alcohol by volume). There are one and a half units of alcohol in: A small glass (125 ml) of ordinary strength wine (12% alcohol by volume), or A standard pub measure (35 ml) of spirits (40% alcohol by volume). A more accurate way of calculating units is as follows. The percentage alcohol by volume (%abv) of any drink equals the number of units in one litre of that drink. For example: Strong beer at 6% abv has six units in one litre. If you drink half a litre (500 ml) - just under a pint - then you have had three units. Wine at 12% abv has 12 units in one litre. If you drink a quarter of a litre (250 ml) - two small glasses, then you have had three units. Some other examples Three pints of beer, three times per week, is at least 18 units per week. That is nearly the upper weekly safe limit for a man. However, each drinking session of three pints is at least six units, which is more than the safe limit advised for any one day. Another example: a 750 ml bottle of 12% wine contains nine units. If you drink two bottles of 12% wine over a week, that is 18 units. This is above the upper safe limit for a woman. Isn't alcohol good for you? Yes, for men over 40 and for women past the menopause, drinking a small amount of alcohol (1-2 units per day) helps to protect against heart disease and stroke. |

This has NOTHING to do with people who are training. I also question doing a "one size fits all" guide to drinking. A 300lb male can process an ounce of alcohol faster than a 150 lb man. You didn't name your source but if you give it 6 months the info will change. Bottom line WTF, drink whatever you want to.-------------- Sometimes life is like herding cats. Charlie

well charlie, this is general info that everyone can gain some knowledge about...its a UK-based website and im sure is a trustful source, as i saw the same article on several uk sites. im sure most of us drink at least some alcohol, so this would help guide, and control the amounts they drink.
and i never said it fits all either charlie. i was just trying to provide some useful info, try and appreciate it. i presume this survey takes into account the fact that anyone's liver cells detoxify alcohol at just about the same rate, regardless of whether they weigh 300lb or 150lb. source was http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/23069189/ |

============ Quoting from kenny_wtf: im sure most of us drink at least some alcohol, so this would help guide, and control the amounts they drink. Then you would be wrong. The vast majority of folks who seriously train drink not one bit. source was http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/23069189/ ============= -------------- Sometimes life is like herding cats. Charlie

Nope, I don't drink...at all. And I said most people who train seriously don't either. Couldn't tell you who drinks here or doesn't. There are an awful lot of folk who just pass through here for a very short time. Tell you what, let's talk about this in a year if you're still here.-------------- Sometimes life is like herding cats. Charlie

kenny - the point is that you've spent an awful lot of time the last few days trying to find jusification for drinking. That's not what this site is about and that's also not saying that nobody on this side ever has a drink. He&* if you want to drink, do so.-------------- Mike in Pensacola Now. |

::::puts down the vodka bottle::::.....I have seen the light!....you have changed my life...
I agree with charlie 100%...if you're a serious athlete then your alcohol consumption will be 0..... For an avg person 1-2 glasses of red wine a day might be good for overall health.....however...how many people actually do so? and there's nothing new here....it's been talked about and advertised by government agencies on tv, discussed in forums, lectured in school,...etc....nothing here is new... shot of hard liquor, glass of wine, bottle of beer...equivalent of 1 drink....men shouldn't go above 2 ...in any given day...if they drink for health...women should stick with 1 a day....summary of tha whole page....

i searched few topics on alcohol in fitbuddy be4 making this post, but did not really find any hard facts about a safe-to-drink limit..like how many units a weeks/day etc. becos i do drink alcohol, usually in weekends and found the info very useful. i only posted it for anyone who drink alcohol. if u dont drink, then good 4 u, and stop condemning about posts that could potentially help an alcoholic/heavy drinker control his/her consumption in case they come to this site and search for some info regarding alcohol consumption.
makes me start questioning the word 'proffessional' |
