i seem to have a slow metabolism, is there any way i can make it faster within a few weeks? I also have another question the faster your metabolism, it affects your wieht status right? so therefore if you eat right and have a fast metablism you get skinnier?

The best way to speed up your metabolism is eat...5-6 times a day. Food is fuel for your body, just as gas is to your car. If you don't feed it it will shut down on you and start storing fat in anticipation of being starved again. The affects for me were within about 3 weeks, where I was able to eat more and start to lose weight. Everyone is different though and it could happen faster or slower for you.
I would eat breakfast, then a snack, then lunch, then a snack, then dinner then a snack before bed. Eventually I started finding myself getting really hungry, so I had to add stuff to my meals and snacks to hold me over longer. Keep in mind your body will do better on these 5-6 meals a day if they're good whole foods as they're easier for your body to process. Check out the "Grocery list for healthy eating" Also try to eat all your carbs for the day before 3pm and mostly protein after that. Carbs get stored as fat easier while you sleep then proteins do. This isn't all there is to getting skinny though and the phrase getting skinny is just that...skinny. If you really want to change the appearance of your body then get a workout program from here and stick for it 2-3 days a week of weight training and some cardio on your off days from weights. Then when you shed the bodyfat you'll have a body to be proud of. Good luck and keep us posted. |

thanks for the input sstump1, the thing I asked about getting skinny(losing wieght) is because I'm having a problem with my pullups, at the moment i could barely do 1. And i think if i lose a few points it will help me alot. ANd i will be going ot bootcamp soon. I also need to shed off 30 seconds on my mile and a half run. So i htink if i lose al ittle weight, it will also help me big time.

As discussed in the other thread, you better get more than one pullup soon, if your off to bootcamp in a few weeks...:dumbbell:-------------- A conscience is what hurts when all of your other parts feel so good... |

Along the same lines as metabolism/and eating at the right times is there a right time to workout because I want to gain lean mass AND lose the fat around my abs so i was told it is best to do cardio and lift weights as far apart during the day as possible. Is this right? And if so, I can either do cardio before breaksfast then lift in the evening before or after dinner. . . .OR i can lift before breakfast and then do cardio in the evening before or after dinner. . Which is better? does it make a difference?

The best time to workout (cardio or weights) is whenever is most convenient for you. It's real easy to get busy in our lives and say "not today...I'll do it tomorrow", so try not to put yourself in the situation where something might come up. Otherwise I hear morning is the best time, which is when I do mine, but I've also read the difference is minimal. However make sure you're eating something before regardless of the time of day. Also do your cardio at least 6-8 hours after lifting.

Thanks for the help sstump, my only problem is in order to do cardio 6-8 hours after lifting I have to do one in the morning and one in the evening but in the morning i have to do it before i eat since i have to be at work so early, . . do u think if i lifted in the evening, ate dinner then woke up, did cardio and then ate breakfast immediatly after would be good enough?

Don't complicate it too much...right now you're just getting started so do whatever schedule works for you...at least until you get used to it then you can customize the times a little better and see what works best for you. If you have to do your weights and cardio back to back then that's fine (at least do the weights first otherwise you'd be out of energy doing cardio first).
However I would recommend against doing weights or cardio on an empty stomach....you wouldn't try to drive across town with no gas in your car would ya? |

It's fine but you might find it difficult to fall asleep after since your heart rate won't immediately drop. You might find that you're extremely hungry after running...at least I do...so you'll probably need something.
