Sorry for all the questions guys... But was just wondering what everyones opinion on drinking alcohol is. I work my butt off in the gym. I never really drink alcohol and if I do I feel as though my efforts in the gym that day went to waste, not so much because of fat but more in terms of muscle growth. Anyone got any opinions or facts? Im not talking about going out and getting drunk, but drinking a beer or two when out with friends...

Have you done a fitbuddy search? There are quite a few posts on the subject. A few glasses of red wine can actually be beneficial; just don’t let the alcohol control you!

guess that would depend on your goals.....if your goal is a 6 pack...in say 3 months.....then I would have one day a week, to hang out and drink some beer. Within moderation.....3 or 4 ok.......But after your "cheat day" back to your "diet" and workouts...

If your more like me, just do it to get stronger and feel good.....then your diet can be a lil more lax......persoanlly I don't like beer....IF I drink alochol its like mixed drinks.

But I do know( read it somwhere) that alochol namly beer I think.....is known to be a big leading cause of tummy fat. Thats seems ot be where those calories "go" and I think may even lower testasterone some i dunno not sure.

Also reamember what alochol does to your body....its a depressant.....and also it dehydrates you.....so if you take creatine and other supplements....you may be hindering their absorbsion into your body and muscles.

As recommended above keep it to a cheat day and in moderation.

One other thing that I've read is that sugar in and of itself isn't an awful thing in moderation. However sugar can cause your body to store more fat then normal. So try to limit your fat and fried food intake for several hours before and after drinking. Really this applies to any thing containing sugar, but you'll notice that when you go to a bar almost everything is slathered in fat or batter and fried up to perfection. So then you eat it all and the insulin spike tells your body to store the fat for a rainy day. Might help you out and save you a 1/2 each time you pick up a few.

Do consider if you ever want to be like the underwear models you likely won't get it in the bar. So evaluate your long term and short term goals and determine what you want. Because as you get leaner you'll have to buckle down harder to get tighter and slimmer.

And as bigandrew mentioned it does lower testosterone, which in turn lowers your metabolism and limits muscle growth, which in turn makes you...fat.

Only slows them a bit. If it stopped them growing, I would not even have a skeleton.
I brew my own, in kegs and like most Aussies I drinks a bit, usually beer. But it does give you a beer gut. Which is why I work out.
