Right now im lifting 3 times a week for 40 mins and afterward i do 20 mins of cardio. The problem is im not getting enough intensity out of my work outs, im not builduping up to my target heart rate in that 20 min period, and I feel rushed to get my weight training done in 40 mins. If I up the time to an hour of weight training and a half hour of cardio do i put my self at risk for overtraining. Also will that extra half hour of cardio release the hormone cortisol. I always had the impression that you schould keep your work outs below an hour. Keep in mind i am under time constraints so gettin to the gym 3 times a week is about as much as i can manage (i do yoga on another day so i work out 4 dyas a week.
thanx in advance

I think you should fill out your profile, 'cause a lot of people won't respond if you don't.

i train for more than an hr at a time...however....if u want to up the intensity and cut down on time...try circuit training....but more than an hr at a time wont harm u...just as long as u are properly nourished b4 and afterwords.

If you have to do cardio on the same day, I suggest doing cardio in the morning, before having anything to eat. If you have a meal before running, you will just use that for fuel and burn that off, rather than burning off any fat. Then leave the weights till afternoon or at night, or you'll be too exhausted.
