My name's Tara. I'm 16, an artsy type person - I love to read, write, draw, paint, sing, etc...
I have trouble achieving any level of personal fitness because of my limited lifestyle. I live in a trailer park, access my internet with AOL trial CDs (those are SUCH a godsend..) and have no money whatsoever at my disposal, nor do I have any influence on the CRAP my father buys with our pathetic alottment of foodstamps any given month. I also have a lot of health problems (from not being properly taken care of most of my life, and from genetics..) which make exercise nearly impossible or at the very least VERY difficult for me... I dropped out of school to work because we're so low on money, a decision I now regret but cannot go back on - (..long story) .. And the jobs I've tried haven't worked out, because of my joint problems and lack of transportation (among mental neuroses) I was having a very hard time keeping a job period. :(
I've never really been very.. eh .. shall we say physically inclined? When I was a little girl, I was very VERY skinny, unhealthily so, and my metabolism AND situation (among other things..) shifted dramatically when I hit puberty at about age 11. From then on it's been a constant incline in my weight, and I'm now (at age 16!!) obese, stretchmarked, and disgusted with myself.
I guess I'm just asking for a miracle ... Something I can do away from the sun (photosensitivity) without straining my unused muscles or eroding joints, some way to lose weight on little to no food (and bad food, I might add) ... I don't know, is there ANYTHING you can suggest?
Oh, erm, here are my stats:
I'm 5'4" and I measure 40DD-38-48 - I weigh 208 lbs (with clothes..)...
Any ideas?:(

Tara,
Trust me i know the feeling!!! i was over weight my self and i know the feeling YUCK UGLY..U name it....so...you have to make the decision to change your lifestyle. FOR YOURSELF nobody else but yourself. Its your body your life . Take control now u can do it!!! Start off simple like man_of _steel said... even if its 20-30 min brisk walk around the block gettin out and active motivates u to push for further goals. But without clean eating you wont feel good or look good... so start taking a food journal. I KNOW first hand its apain but just after a wekk you will notice where you need to cut backa nd where u need to pick up the slack. You can always do simple work outs on your own...ie - push ups. sit ups ect... you dont need a gym to get fit and healthy. I hope this helps and you just have to have goals set without them the light at the end of the tunnel is invisible! Stick it out girl and good luck

You know what. You should be an author. You have a great way with words, and your post was very interesting to read. I think since you have joint problems walking would be a great start, like C_dobrocky said. Good luck, and you can do it.

My heart really goes out to you - you have it pretty hard. All I can do is agree with the previous posters. Do not lose hope. Losing weight is not too difficult, even in your circumstances. Try and eat as well as you can, given your budget and circumstances and take regular exercise like walking and callisthenics to keep yourself fit. You can get a good exercise book out of your local library and eating healthily need not be expensive.
And never run yourself down - you're a fellow human being with as much right to share God's green earth as anyone else.

Okay.
You haven't filled out a profile, but you give us a lot of info.
Your problems are quite compounded, but thta just means you have more odds to overcome.
Start walking.
Man_of_steel, she can't afford a gym. but yes, walking is a good start.
You actually can eat fairly healthy on foodstamps, if your father is willing to buy the right things. oatmeal, eggs, milk, vegetables. Food stamps does not have to equal junk. Ask your father if your health is important to him.
You can use anything you can find to start strengthening your muscles, which inturn should help cushion and protect your joints.
Do biceps curls and shoulder presses with soup cans or bags of dried beans, do intervals of walking lunges when you are out for your walks.
Is there a community swimming pool near you? Swimming would be an excellent non-impact exercise for you, easy on the joints and you can just jog back and forth in the shallow end if you don't like swimming.

As usual, asimmer, your advice is like little pieces of gold falling from above.
