Running sucks. It's time consuming and even when i get that runners high i still have never enjoyed it. I love sprints but anything over 2 miles i hate. But its good for ya and some people love it. I do them but hate every step of them. Rob

I enjoy running but only do it in the early spring and fall because the summer time heat exhaust me and the winter time cold sucks. :o)
Anyhow during my running seasons I experience pain in my shins for days after running. Do any of you know why?

billk What your experiencing is whats called shin splints. The muscles in the front part of your leg are not use to the extra load your placing on them. I have found that the best way to avoid them is to do special stretches and exercises especially for the shin area. One great exercise is to stand flat footed and lift your toes straight up keeping your heel in place on the floor. Of course you only want to do this one foot at a time for balance. You can vary this exercise by placing weight on your toe as you do this.

Try cycling, everyone! Doesn't hurt the knees; great workout for the quads and hamstrings, especially if you clip into your pedals. Find a local bike shop that has Saturday or Sunday morning training runs. Some groups are social and you meet a lot of GREAT people. Cycling is a great alternative to running. The Cyclingmaniac!

I run once in a while simply to change my cardio work out and take out the dog!! OR when I'm on holidays and I don't have a gym nearby. It's so easy to carry with you a pair of baskets than heavy dumbbels! (o;
It's true that running can be tough to the body, but make sure of wearing the right shoes and go slowly in the beginning!
