Hey guys, to start off: I'm sorry if this is the wrong post for this forum but I couldn't really decide on which category to post in. Basically I am 17 years old and I play hockey and lacrosse, I weigh about 165-170 lbs. and I don't consider myself as a skinny guy but not BIG also. I currently have started working out heavily with weights for the last 4 weeks, and I even purchased some whey protein in hopes of gaining muscle mass quicker and more efficiently. Basically I am in need of some assistance in gaining mass and taking that next step to becoming basically a bigger guy (muscle mass). I would like to possibly reach to 190 or 195 lbs. as a goal for the future. From what I have read I have heard alot of different opinions on this topic. A lot of people have said that eating a lot of good foods and working out with heavy weights will help you get big. I was wondering if anyone was willing to share some knowledge on this subject. I know lifting and challenging myself with heavier weights will gain some mass but there is also a nutrition aspect involved also. Since taking protein and eating about 4 to 5 meals a day, I have seen some progression in gaining mass. But I feel that I may have an idea but not on the right track. I have also heard that to gain mass you should try to get about 1 g of protein per body weight per day. Do carbohydrates come into the picture when trying to gain muscle mass weight? Sometimes I just feel like there is something that I am missing or something I have to learn. If anyone is willing to help me on this topic It would be greatly appreciated. THANKS

I yes you need your carbs. I am not talking white bread though. You need to foods like Oats veggies whole grains. Carbs are your fuel source. The protein intake needs to go up shoot for more like 1.5 to 2 grams per pound of body weight. Diet is a big key as well as heavy weights low to medium rep schemes. Look down in the strength training forum for good work outs you can use. Good luck - Mike

How many grams of carbs and fat would I need to take in daily along with the protein? and what types of foods would be key for this intake?
