20 yrs old, 6'0" weighing about 186 pounds. I have been lifting for about 9 months and have seen good gains in mass and muscle in my upper body and arms since weight lifting and increasing my calorie intake and protein intake. I am now at a size upper body wise were i would like to get a bit bigger but would like ot start loosing some of the excess wait on my stomach and lower back area. I do a good amount of ab exercises but i know dieting is the key. I am starting to do about an hour of cardio 3-4 times a week(basketball and running) along with lifting weights 5 times a week. I was wondering if a calorie intake of around 2000-2200 with eating high in protein shakes and foods(whey/soy protein shake and tuna, steak, etc) would help to keep my muscle and strength up while reducing overall body fat?

negative daily caloric intake for a prolonged period of time as during a diet....will more than likely cause you to lose muscle/strength....along with body fat...

What if im taking about 2500 calories a day then but burning about 1800 of them(about 1 hour of b-ball a day and weight training.) THen im not at a deficit but im considerably low on calorie intake. If i keep my protein levels up will i still be able to maintain muscle or even grow a bit while losing a little weight?

i burn alone 3300 calories a day thats when im not working out at the gym thats when i do just plain normal day while at WORK... i aint a overly sized person... or a fast metabolism type person more the average type.. but im sure someone yuor size would burn more then 1800 calories
