Saw a poster up at my gym.......to become "certified" its about 150bucks.......for the test book, practical, cpr training etc. I always wanted to be a trainer and pas on what knowledge I have to others......however....
I don't like the trainers at my gym.....the guys have a chip on their shoulder, girls don't know anything.
I'm afriad i'd be having to do what the "gym" wanted me to do, and not whats best for the clients.....
i'm nto sure the "type" of certification...i'll cheak that out next time I at gym.
any comments ?

if its a basic personal trainer certification, you will be given an outline of how to train beginners through advanced. i took my course through can fit pro, but the programs you make for your clients are fully customizable. there is no set standard you need to follow, and i dont think any gyms would enforce one anyways.
its pretty much up to the personal trainer how you want to design the program.. of course taking into consideration the cleint goals, etc.

do NASM.....it's well established....2 of my friends did it through them and were happy with it....
ISSA is alright i just don't like their sales staff....they were hounding me for 6 months after I made an inquiry into their prices and so forth...
you'll also need to take a 1 day CPR course as well...

i think nationaly recognized organizations are better because it's universally recognized by clubs where as gold's certification is just for their club....

Get you certificate and start training people. I put it off for years before I finally did it. Now I love it.
The industry needs more educated instructors and instructoirs who are always keen to learn more. My gym is much the same as yours(most instructors have very limited knowlege). You should be free to write what ever programs you feel are suitable for your clients. If not, then work at a different gym.
