Hello. I am a 22 year old male. I am incredibly out of shape and am 130lbs over my healthy weight. I have recently decided it is time to get rid of all of this flab and get into shape. I want to hack away all this fat and flab and get some good muscle going on instead. As I said before, I am incredibly out of shape. I attemted to start a new excercise program last night and was unable to do even a single pushup. I have never been able to do a pushup, as I have always been overweight. I never tried hard in PE in school because I was embarrassed of my weight and didn't want to make a fool out of myself. I have been vegan (I don't consume anything with dairy, eggs, meat or any animal products) for about 5 months and vegetarian for a little over 3 years. Just trying to figure out where I should start and what I can do to get this fat gone. I don't/won't take any drugs to get rid of this weight, hell, i won't even take an aspirin, I hate drugs. I want to lose as much weight as possible in the shortest time possible without doing it unnaturally or unhealthily. I am very low income and cannot afford a gym membership or any fancy equipment. My ideal goal is to lose 130lbs and tone my body for speed, strength and stamina. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really just need assistance, and more than anything, support.

have you filled out a fitness program or nutritional profile? this is the easiest way to get started if you are lost.. it will give you a good solid program to begin with and dietary guidelines to follow.. i think there is a program for home use.. anyways, check those out and good luck! you've come to the right place to get back in shape, theres lots of support and information at this site!

I started my fitness program I signed up for Monday. I wasn't able to do any REAL pushups, had to know the ones on your knees. The "dips behind the back" i couldn't do and after doing the squats i was too weak and sore to do the calf raises. I'll try again tonight when I get off work.

The key is to start slow. Do what you can, but make sure you are still pushing yourself somewhat. There is nothing wrong with doing pushups from your knees, just try and increase the number slowly, each workout, to build some base strength. Lunges and squats are also great for building up strength in your legs, no weights needed. Also, introduce some cardio into your workouts, walking to start, increasing your speed or distance as you progress. If you keep at it, you'll steadily build up strength and endurance. Keep your diet clean as well, no junk food or pop!!! It'll be a challenge for you being vegan, but do some research and ensure your consuming the right amount of protien/carb and fat for your personal profile. You should be aiming for a weight loss of 1-2lb/week max(although you may loose a bit more in the first few weeks) Do a fit buddy search on vegan and you'll probably get lots of info. Loosing weight is all about both diet and exercise, you have to do both! Make it a lifestyle, not a short term goal!!
Good Luck!!

just because you dont eat meat doesnt mean you should eat pasta bc pasta is horrible for you if you eat it alot. stick to the veggies, run around and do push ups
