I believe it depends upon how complex the design is and where you are putting it

My husband has tats on his neck, arm and chest and 2 look slightly bigger but still have their shape intact.

My own tatoo has remained unaffected.

I wouldn't get any tattoos until you get to the size that you plan on staying at. As bropie said, if you get big real fast it's going to stretch.

It would look like a shriveled up version of what you had before...not a good idea if you got a hot chick on your arm and lose a lot of weight! Might need to had a cane or something to the tat at that point.

Otherwise getting a tat, then bulking up and getting stretched look, I would think could be fixed with touch up.

There's always the risk of it changing with good old time, but most of us with tattoos are banking on enjoying ours untill then.

The artists usualy know where to best put different types of designs on the body for long term results.
yea if you go in, pay and say "put this here", they'll do it, but a consultation can go a long way.

When I got my tat I had wanted to put it on my stomache near my hip but the artist suggested putting it somewhere else. I'm glad I took his advice becuz 2 kids later and it's still in mint condition. Had I done what I wanted, well I would be facing huge regrets!!

Simple ones like barbwire style tats on the arm or calf can hold up pretty well thru different sizes and so you tend to see those on alot of muscular guys.

Most tattoos inevitably need up-keep work. Some can go many many yrs and some need it sooner.
Usualy ones with multiples colors, or colors like blue purple, pink, light blue and white, etc..need to be re-touched depending on how fast it fades, with white typicaly fading the fastest. This is sometimes true even if it never stretches or looses shape.

:)

I knew someone with a rose on her breast...after she got pregnant it turned into a long stem rose. Guess she should have gotten the consultation.
