I've done some searches on this and have found nothing conclusive. My chest is developing nicely toward the outside due to flat bench with barbell. I've changed my workout and now start chest with barbell inclines because my upper chest needed work. The problem is that my chest flattens toward the upper middle. Does this come from dips, dumbell inclines and close grip flat bench (concentrated form on the last to avoid tricep work)?
I should add however that I also believe that when doing the bench press, the inner chest works harder at a specific point in the press, roughly around mid-way up. So you could emphasis the squeeze at that point.
