1. Although I know we can't build muscle during cutting phases, I wanna know if it's possible to gain strength during cutting phases.

2. Just what percent of my diet should consist of carbs during a cutting phase in contrast with the percent during bulk/maintenance phases. (Also, I've minimized bread, but I'm still on fruit and sweet potatoes. Is that OK for cutting?)

3. Is it true that lifting lower weights/higher reps will give you a cut look? I've read people on the board state that their is cutting and bulking, but toning is a fallacy, so I don't know what the deal is now.

gaining strength depends on how strong you are now....if you're an experience lifter you may lose some strength almost surely...however if you're somewhat inexperienced you maybe able to gain some strength....

sweet potatoes are actually a good type of carbs...they are complex and one of the most nutritious vegetables you can eat....

you can eat bread if it's 100% whole wheat/rye.......although as you're cutting...it's a good idea to decrease the intake....

higher reps give your muscles more endurance....not cut look per se...the cut look is more dependant on your diet/nutrition...

Thanks, Menace. I've been lifting for years, on and off, so I guees I'll have to settle for losing strength. That sucks.

I am glad to hear about the sweet potatoes. About the bread-what brand are we talking about here. I get 100% whole wheat, but is still has damn corn syrup in it. They all do. What do you use?

And, as for fruit, I usually drink a blend of 1 cup OJ & frozen mixed berries, grapefuit, apples, kiwi, grapes, plums. Which of these are Ok for cutting (I know the grapefruit is supposed to be acceptable and I've cut out bananas)?
