Hi, I'm a 26 year old male training for my first traithlon in September 2005. I was a competitive swimmer all my life and did occasional weights during HS and college however I stopped working out for three years. I just started swimming and running lightly about 6 months ago. My friends and I recently decided to participate in a 1.5K swim, 40K bike 10K run (1 mile, 25 miles, 6 miles) triathlon so I've been more seriously training the last 3 weeks.

I'm currently a big-boned 6'0'', 200 Lbs, 22% body fat. My goal is to get down to 175-180 Lbs by losing my fat while also getting in shape so I can perform well. I'm less concerned with getting buffed and more concerned about being lean and fast. I'm now planning on a schedule of something like:

Monday: Upper Body 2x10-15, 30-75 min Running
Tuesday: Legs 2x10-15, Abs and Back, 45-75 min swimming
Wednesday: Upper Body 2x10-15, 30-75 min Running
Thursday: Legs 2x10-15, Abs and Back, 45-75 min swimming
Friday: Rest
Saturday: 75-120 min biking
Sunday: Rest

Since I do real biking (usually mountain biking) I really can't do weights on those days (will take too much time) and generally have to do it on the weekends. Also I can swim with a group on Tuesdays and Thursdays so that is nice but not necessary.

Does this sound like a good plan based on my goals?

P.S. I'm also trying to follow this site's nutrition guidlines so at most 3000 calories, proper protein, etc.

Thanks for any and all input.

Hey Flloyd,
You pose many questions, which are challenging to answer in detail. I do however suggest that you take a whirl around the site noted below, it is dedicated to folks just like yourself, I'd take their training advise and pair it with the info from Freetrainers.
