Okay - here is how I got to it:
Click on fitness plan, then change exercise goals, personalized exercise program, fill out profile, picl 'Gain muscle mass and Size' (not 12 week mass gain) and now you can pick which muscle group to specialize.

When you clicked "both"for weights and machines did you go completely through the setup steps and click "change my routine at the end? You can't pick your workout days on the mass program.

I don't think cleans are used in any programs on here......cause they aren't concidered a "bodybuilding" type excercise. They are more asociated with speed and strength training since you usually do no more than 2 or 3 cleans at a time. PLus they are VERY dangerous if done improperly, the clean is somthing you really need shown, not read or look at pics.

yea for general bodybuilding purpose cleans are not necessary although they do help strengthen the shoulder...so if you need to do them ...do it with your shoulder workout as the first exercise...just make sure you know what you're doing.... as Andrew suggested it could end badly if you don't know what you're doing...

add in deadlifts as the first exercise with your back workout

stiff legged deadlifts are a leg exercise...so do it with your leg day...to train hamstrings...

take out up right rows......and do cleans

if your going for strength gains....then why not do one of gators workouts? Are a powerlifting style routine? I have looked at the routines on here before.......they are good for getting in shape, bodybuilding etc.......however have a mild emphasis on actual strength gains.

fromt he way menace looks, he has imcorperated bodybuilding and some strength gains.......ask him for suggestions.

timm check out powerlifting forum to find a good workout with emphasis on strength gains...

dave tate a fitness guru( who has Elite Fitness often brought up by gator...)....recently had an article in men's journal where he was talking about how average guys can take advantage of powerlifting workouts...you don't need to be a prototypical powerlifter....if you keep your diet in check.....you should see faster gains than those of a bodybuilding workout...(so don't up your calories significantly...otherwise you will gain significant amount of fat....typical of many powerlifters...)

Timms original question was on how to make the FT mass program work. It seems to me if you want to gain mass, then do a mass program for a time. When I said do one routine first and then the next, my idea was what the heck difference does it make? I've lifted for 30+ years. If I want to build mass I don't see the need to mix in a bunch of other exercises. It almost seems like younger newbies are looking for that ONE perfect workout that gives strength, mass, speed, cutting and whatever all at once. It just doesn't need to be this complicated. I'll be doing this until I die. Have patience. EAT, REST, LIFT. Thats it.

The same thing applies to eating. Eating well will get you more gains than all the supplements in the world. Find out what works well for you and just do it. If you wanna be hard headed and mix your PWO shake with milk so be it. Do that for 6 months and check your gains. Then mix it with water for 6 months and see for yourself if there is a difference.

Folks there aint no magic bullet or short cuts that works the same for everybody. Stick with it for decades and you'll know what works for you.
