I work on my abs everyday, but I was wondering is this a good idea? Or do they need a rest inbetween days?

no it's not a good idea....it's a muscle just like all others....getting a 6pack is a factor increased resistance and nutrition....so doing 1000 crunches daily is pointless....instead do decline crunches or hold a plate/dumbell or both...etc...keep reps under 20....
do 1-3 days of abs a week....you're just overtraining limiting your results....
also focus on improving your nutrition...and reducing your calories...to slowly lose the layer of fat covering your abs....as well as cardio...
do a SEARCH at the bottom of the page...this topic has been discussed X times already....

well if the problem is fat you gottqa decrease your total body fat, and that would probably be easier if you revised your nutrition habits.
