raj, thats a pretty vicious diet your friend went on. Diets like those eat up just as much muscle tissue, if not more, then body fat. And when the weight comes back on all you really have done is given yourself a worse body fat to muscle ratio.

I have heard of sensible detox diets, which involve avoiding caffeine, alcohol, wheat and processed food. No problem with that as long as you're getting your calories and macros right, IMO

Removing processed foods and foods most likely to cause allergic reactions is a good start for detoxing the body. You need to up your fluid intake and supplement with a quality vitamin regimen, preferably one that is taken a few times a day, as opposed to a one-a-day.
Lots of fresh vegetables, lemon juice in your water, no 'white foods' (sugar, salt, flour), no wheat, no dairy, no corn, no oats.
The least allergenic foods you can eat are rice (brown) and lamb, and green vegetables.
Filter your water.
What are your goals with detoxification?
Are you worried about the health of your intestinal tract? Poor diet and food allergies can create an environment where the digestive system can't use nutrients from food - basically you are 'starving' nutritionally while eating a plentiful diet. This can be corrected through the elimination-type diet and restoration of the healthy environment in the digestive system.
People detoxify for different reasons. some think their liver function isn't optimal and want to give it a break from processing chemicals and additives and cleanse it, milk thistle is a good addition (in tea form) if you think your liver needs a little support.
If you are detoxifying from drug or alcohol use, their are many considerations. Alcohol and drugs steal nutrients from the body, again, creating deficiencies even when you are eating a plentiful diet. There is a good book called "Seven Weeks to Sobriety' which prescribes a detailed diet and supplemental regimen to detox from and prevent cravings for alcohol and drugs.
If you want more info, be more specific.

no I dont use drugs and dont drink alcohol and havent in the past. My goal is basically to detoxify my body of all the junk food that i have eaten for the past month or so. I just feel soo unhealthy and i have slacked off for a while and thought it would be a good start.
I've tried it before, I had brown rice, vegetable and fruits for a week, i did lose some weight and i felt good after that although it was difficult to have that discipline all the time. I couldnt have any processed food or bread, oranges etc...
I just want to start eating healthy again and for some reason (most likey emotional) I am not doing that.

Sounds like you need to set some goals and figure out why you want to eat healthier. Make some lists of the reasons you awant to and how it will benefit you, then make a list of what it will be like if you don't eat healthier.
Also - read the daily motivational post!
