periodization is simply the science of changing up your program in order to obtain a desired outcome (adaptation).
the father of modern periodization is tudor bompa, but there are many other authors/researchers that are just as noteworthy: Ian King, Mel Siff, Charles Poliquin, Kim Goss, Jerry Telle, etc. anyone who i didn't mention, i probably can't pronounce,let-alone, spell their names.
tudor bompa's periodization for athletes can usually be found at a local barnes and noble and is a great place for someone that is just getting into periodization principles.
any other questions, just ask.
