I've drastically changed my workouts over the past year and a half. I'm lifting heavier and doing less cardio with progressive results (finally putting some muscle on my 5'10" frame!). Last week I really struggled in the gym and think my body might need a little break. I would like to take the week "off" but will continue with a clean diet and would like to keep going to the gym. I'm not quite sure, however, how to use this week most efficiently. Should I lift lighter weights? Use machines instead of fw's? Do more cardio? Do nothing? I can't imagine not going to the gym at all. I currently lift 5 days and do 3 days of running/stair climbing for 30 minutes. Any suggestions?

Well you can't take a week off and go to the gym. You either go and train, or don't go.
Your body needs a rest. Sometimes it is from over training, or over reaching. In any case both are not healthy. If you are starting to struggle , then take the week off, rest, and recover. And you know, like you said eat healthy.

Appreciate the input carivan. I guess I was always of the thought that even on an off week (from your normal routine), some type of active rest was best. It's hard to break bad habits!! :(
