Do you recommend a 17 year old to go to the gym a week? I have low fitness and im really wanting to get fit in about 7 weeks.

Any suggestions?

First of all you have to realize that becoming fit takes time. It depends on what your status is when you start. Also do you want to lose weight or gain weight? I say that you could probably lose 10-15lbs. in 7 weeks if this is what you want. Post what your goals are so we can help you better.

What are your goals? Do you want to concentrate on lifting weights or cardio or both? If lifting, you should give your muscles 24-72 hours to "rest" (see the weight lifting forum for more). If you use the exercise program free here on FT it will help you with the exacts of starting out. Good luck to you and your goals! :)

Why don't you want to lift weights? If you are going to a gym you might as well lift weights, and not waste the membership money on something you can do at your home. Plus there are many benefits on weightlifting that will help accomplish your goals. Many people believe that weightlifting is better than cardio when you want to lose fat. Because you just burn calories when you exercise when you do cardio, but when you weightlift you have an increase in calorie burning for about another 48 hours I believe. Also when you add more muscle to your body then you will burn more calories throughout the day. You will not be able to "get fit" in seven weeks doing cardio alone, it will be tough enough to do it with weight and cardio. And Andrew is right the most important aspect of getting fit is your diet, you can lift and run all you want but if you do not eat properly it will all be useless.
